Renting items

HOW DOES DELIVERY WORK?

The owner will get a PostNL shipping label, which can be placed on the parcel and shipped at any PostNL location. The renter also receives a PostNL shipping label for the return shipment, which can be placed on the parcel and shipped at any PostNL location. Please note, the renter pays for round-trip shipping costs and the owner provides the renter with the tracking number.

HOW DOES DRY-CLEANING WORK?

The owner takes care of the cleaning of the designer item, that way you get the dress back quickly and can have quality control over the cleaning. We recommend the owner includes the price of the dry-cleaning in the Rental Fee. We are currently looking into an affiliated dry cleaner business for our website so watch this space.

HOW DOES DEPOSIT WORK?

Renters pay a €150 flat fee for insurance that goes towards repairing damage or helping cover the full replacement value if your item is beyond repair.

But don’t fret! Our renters know to take care of your items and we have a very low damage rate across the platform.

WHAT IF I ACCIDENTALLY DAMAGE MY RENTAL?

As a renter, it is expected that you treat rented items as if they are your own. Our Customer Service team will handle all issues regarding damages to items.

The €150 deposit fee on every rental covers minor rips, stains, and tears. After each rental, we can assess each item and have it repaired immediately if it has been damaged. If the item needs major repair, we will bill the renter for the cost of that repair.

IS THERE A LATE FEE?

RentMyDress.nl will charge a €25 late fee each day after the 7th day of your rental. If you can’t make your scheduled return pickup date/time, reschedule with the owner and email us – within good reason, we will wave the late fee.

HOW DO I AVOID BEING CHARGED FOR ITEMS I DID NOT DAMAGE?

While it is unfortunate, items that are rented out do experience normal wear and tear as well as other damages. If you receive an item that has already been damaged, please notify us immediately (24 hours before your event) and if you do not want to wear the item, we will refund you in full for the rental (excluding shipping costs).

WHAT HAPPENS IF THE ITEM DOES NOT FIT? WHAT IS THE RETURN POLICY?

When you rent an item, there’s always a chance it might not fit and you have to return it. If this is the case, please notify our customer support team WITHIN 24 hours of RECEIVING your item. Once you’ve notified us, use the return shipping label provided, attach it to the parcel and drop it off at the nearest PostNL post office (shipping cost will not be refunded). You will be refunded the rental cost excluding delivery fee.

(Please note that while the refund is immediately processed and issued, it may take 5-7 days for it to show up on your bank statement.)

Provided the listing is 100% accurate in terms of sizing, and the owner has answered any questions regarding fit honestly and to the best of their ability, we will be able to offer refunds for dresses that do not fit perfectly(not including shipping fee).

HOW DO I CANCEL MY RENTAL?

When you make a rental request, the owner begins preparing for your rental. If you cancel before the rental period begins (3 days before your event), you will receive a full refund. If the owner has already shipped the item, you will receive a refund, minus shipping costs. If it is the day before your event, you will receive a 50% refund, minus shipping costs.

To make a cancellation, email us immediately with the date of your rental and the owner’s name.

CAN I PURCHASE ITEMS?

Renting Out Your Items

I DON’T HAVE A REGISTERED BUSINESS, HOW CAN I RENT OUT MY ITEMS?

Under Dutch Law, you are not required to have a business to earn money by renting or selling your items. You do, however, need to report your earnings in your early tax form under “earnings from other sources”, in Dutch “Inkomsten uit overig werk”. You are not required or allowed to charge VAT on your items.

WHEN DO I GET PAID?

When you approve a rental request, the rental price will be taken out of the owner’s account. Their funds will transfer directly to you once the item is confirmed returned (please be aware that it can take anywhere from 8-12 days after the rental period begins).

HOW MUCH DO I MAKE ON EACH RENTAL?

We recommend you price your item at 10-30% of the retail price. We take a 5% fee for providing our service once your item has been rented, on top of the price you state.

CAN I USE IMAGES FROM DESIGNERS OR OTHER PROFESSIONAL PHOTOS?

Due to copyright you cannot use designer advertising imagery – the images you upload must be your own images. Copyright-free images sourced online of the dress may be used.

HOW MUCH DO I GET AS AN OWNER?

Owners get 100% of the basic rental fee you enter. Insurance deposit, our fees, and delivery fees are added on top of the basic rental fee.

CAN I SEND IN PICTURES OF CLOTHES ON HANGERS?

Beter not. As a borrower, the size and fit of an item is a major concern.

The best way to help with this is to show how the clothes fit and hang on a real person. Plus, your items will always look better on you so it will increase the likelihood of it being rented. You can use pictures from events where you’ve worn the items – so start looking through all those Facebook and Instagram pictures.

WHAT HAPPENS IF A RENTER RETURNS THE ITEM DUE TO ‘POOR CONDITION’?

We’ll take a look at the notes and pictures provided by the borrower and compare them to those on the site. If the condition is accurately represented on the site, you don’t need to do anything. If we think the item needs to be updated or removed from the site we will notify you and make the change to the listing. We won’t charge the renter for the rental but will return the item to you.

HOW DO YOU VERIFY THE RETAIL PRICE OF AN ITEM?

We verify the amount provided based on research and expertise on the industry and brand.

WHEN DO I GET MY ITEM BACK?

After every rental, we estimate that you will receive your item within three to five days after the end of the rental period.
